Flies
Most people do not like flies. In houses, and outdoors, seeing these pests hovering on or near your food and drinks is an unwelcome sight. However, there are thousands of species of flies in the world. Some types of flies are capable of biting, while others are merely bothersome. Additionally, flies are linked to the spread of typhoid fever, dysentery, diarrheal and food poisoning. When feeding, house flies regurgitate liquid from the stomach to dissolve food, then use their sponging mouthparts to suck it up. They leave focal spots, or “specks,” where they have walked, and in this way may transfer disease organisms to humans and animals. In rural areas, flies can be a nuisance when they gather on the outside walls of homes and buildings on summer evenings.
